Day #20 - MJB

Woke up at 12 today when I thought I woke up already. What is the meaning of life? MJB is one of my favourite top 10 singers and I just love what she represents and sings in all her songs, so I just had to draw her. I think I'm getting better at proportions of the face, it's just eyes now that need a bit more work. I'll would like to attempt a week or a month (if I'm brave) to my favourite songs and artists. Til next time!

Day #19 - Draw the 1st thing I see on Tumblr.

Was it any coincidence,  that I got another picture of food to draw? I think not. Today I had the painful pleasure of drawing ground sirloin, Monterey Jack, fried onion strings and pretzel bun. I know, i know I got hungry just by the sound of it. In terms of drawing, it was a bit difficult because there were so many onion rings I was confused with what went where, but I managed alright (I hope), but I liked the composition of how the drawing turned out. I'll probably do more food drawing to get better, Til next time!

Day #18 - Draw the 1st thing you see Pinterest - Pumpkin Cheesecake

l apologise in advance if I make anyone hungry, I even managed to do that myself. My task for today was to open up Pinterest and draw the first I  thing I saw there. It just had to be a dessert. It didn't help either that I have a very bad sweet tooth . I was happy that I got to use the technique of pointillism for the cream. My drawing proportions still need a bit of work though. Just gonna leave the following below. Your welcome ;) :

Day #17 - Ultimate Muscle

UL-TI-MATE MUSCLE! UL-TI-MATE MUSCLE!
(If this theme song didn't start playing in your head as you read that...well...I dunno what to say...)

Sorry guys, I actually had completed the drawing but I was too lazy to upload it. That and the fact that i got distracted watching some episodes with a average finale ending.  My bad! Decided to draw another childhood show, Ultimate Muscle. For those who remember, this was like a wrestling themed show that used to show on Toonami (R.I.P) and had characters like Kevin Mask and Terry the Kid. Nevertheless, the show had it's funny moments, I wanna watch the series finale and see how it is. I was really really really happy with the drawing, especially the shadows: I just plugged my headphones in and just drew. If anyone has any suggestions on what I could draw next, feel free to comment. Til next time! :)

Day #16 Cats Dont Dance - Danny and Sawyer

Talk about a productive day. Not really. I have realised that I have about 5 projects going on the same time, including this one. Hahahahahahahahahaha, how have I not passed out yet? Anyhow, I decided to go with blue fine-liner for today since I haven't used it in awhile. Glad I chose it. Today's drawing is from another childhood favourite of mine, Cats Don't Dance (I really recommend you watch it). The story is basically about a young adult named Danny, he is a brilliant dancer and wants to make it in Hollywood, but there's this stigma that animals can't be as popular or get as much spotlight like the humans do. An underrated film in my opinion. The couple from the film is Danny and Sawyer (don't they look so sweet together?) I enjoyed drawing this one, I was really tempted  not to draw in the background but I had to. I might also do a week or a month based on animated couples :D Til next time!

Day #15 Howl's Moving Castle - Howl and Sophie

Sorry for the late upload, I felt very sleepy and dozed off. Sorry! Today's drawing is done on Howl and Sophie. I wasn't sure if that would count as Howl's moving castle, so I just settled for drawing this lovely couple instead. If I'm brave enough, I'll try drawing the castle itself. I tried experimenting a little with the colours, but they didn't turn out well. So I just cross hatched the shadows instead, at one point though during this challenge, I would really love to try colouring my sketches properly using coloured markers. Til next time!

Day #14 - For me, isolation is insomnia. You are deeply in your own world.

If, you, any of you reading this now went through a dark place in your lifetime and you came out - better, new, mature, a stronger person. I commend all of you. Whether it be anxiety,  depression etc. Well done on making it so far, it's far from easy and you slowly feel like you're not needed in the world. It's spiralling further and further into nothing.

Today's drawing is based on a quote that I stumbled across whilst doing research for my FMP at foundation. It spoke very personally to me and it's become one of my favourites ever since. It is said by a dancer, Martha Graham. This quote represented how I had been majority of my foundation year. I was eager, yet paranoid to make friends but was afraid how I would get judged for mostly my appearance (I was going through other difficulties as well) and assumed that if two people were whispering or gossiping, I instantly assumed that I had done something wrong. I always had. I'd always compare myself to the more confident girls in my group, how they were just so collected and didn't give two shits about what anyone else thought of them. (But I know I'll be that woman one day). I was just drowning in my own negative thoughts. But that all turned around in the same year too. Click here for my story :).

Today, I discovered the more gentle side of cross hatching. If that makes sense? xD It looks more effective than big bold strokes and makes my drawing look more realistic. Another reason why I'm glad I did this project: there's always room for improvement. Instead of finishing off the drawing normally, I added question marks at the bottom because in my mind, after I finished talking to someone I'd always think: Speak more louder. I hope I looked alright. Aaahh, why did I say that? It may sound superficial, but imagine your mind creating those kind of thoughts each and every day. As Katara rightly said in 'Korra Alone' The mind can be a powerful ally or your greatest enemy". Til next time!

Day #13 -Courage the Cowardly Dog

Quite a difference to yesterday's drawing and it is any coincidence that I happened to draw Courage for the 13th day? Hhhhmmmm. Watching this show when I younger,  I was kinda oblivious to the dark themes within the show, but looking at now I see why people were scared of this show. I'll probably do a month based on Childhood nostalgia.  Sending good vibes to everyone,  hope you've had a good day. If not, I hope you will at somepoint this week. Til next time!

Day #12 - The Electric Lady

:D :D :D :D. So so so sooooo happy with the outcome. Originally, I was going to draw a clip of a magical girl transformation but I wanted to experiment with pencils and oil paints for that. I'm sure you all pretty much agree that Janelle Monae is just amazing and her albums are just magic. I urgently recommend you listen to them, she manages to tell a story through her songs. So good. Anyhow, sketching this out took an hour (ended up going to bed at 5 in the morn)  but it was worth it. I took my time more with this one and rather than fixating on the details, I just went with the flow and with Electric Lady playing at midnight ;) Words cannot describe, how happy I was with the hair, hooray for me! The eyes too. I'll probably draw more artists using the uni pin fine liners; I've enjoyed using them thus far. Also, if anyone has any suggestions on what I can do to improve, you're more than welcome. Til next time!

Electric lady, get wayyyyy downnn....

Day #11 - Jennifer Lawrence

What at first seemed like a brilliant idea is just just turning into late nights and sheer madness. So I might have to replan what time I upload my works because I always take forever to and I always get distracted. Today, I drew the wonderfully talented Jennifer Lawrence.  It's a shame what has happened to her recently and I hope she finds peace again. I saw a tip somewhere that some people prefer to draw out that they're doing first and then use whatever media to add in shade. I realised this when I was drawing Jennifer yesterday:  it made sense. But trouble with me is that in anything that I do, is has to be perfect  and I need to snap out of this mentality. Even though I had the image infront of me and I had drawn out everything, my drawing didn't look like her. Nonetheless, i was really happy with how the drawing turned out, but I might have to work a bit more on facial features. I used Uni pin pens for the first time and really like how crisp (is that the word?) the pens are on paper. Til next time!

Day #10 - 40 min. Study

Might have to pick a different time to my daily drawing, came to Southampton feeling knacked. For today's drawing, I wanted to try a timed task like I had done in A level. Whilst drawing this, I was worried about getting as much detail in as possible and some parts of the drawing looked rushed where I should have taken my time. But it's given me an idea to do a 'Timed task' week.  And I might have to avoid using blue biro in the near future too. The thickness of the pen wasn't good for some aspects of the drawing such as the panda's eyes, so it ended up looking messy.  All in all a good week, kinda looking forward Inktober being over so I can use my oil paints again. Til next time!

Day #9 - Invader Zim

This show always had it's funny moments, but then I could understand why they cancelled it. But I think it could work now if they brought the show back. I was talking about it with my sister and she recalled one episode where Zim found out that you didn't have to be in school if you called in sick, so he went into vents and just grabbed random children and well... I'll leave you to guess the rest. This was actually quite quick to do unlike the others ones which took longer, I'll probably do a redraw of Zim and in his human form too and Gir. *doo doo doo doo*

Day #8 - Silk

Back home for the weekend,  feels good to see family sgain 😃. I actually got so caught in catching up with them that I forgot all about my challenge.  Ended going to bed at half 2 in the morning 😅. I thought it be interesting and helpful to draw the crease and folds in clothes, to help me as both an artist and a designer. I really had fun drawing this, I'll probably do more in different media once Inktober is over. I really hope I don't lazy with this challenge, it's been good so far. Til next time!

Day #7 - Redraw of Day #6

So happy to be back in London, I've missed the sight of red buses and the TFL signs. I meant to post this yesterday after I had finished, but I got sleepy very quickly and woke up with cold #2. Yaaaay -_-. Nevertheless,  I was much more happier with the redraw and how it came out, unsure if I'll try experimenting more with the coloured biros again, who knows, although I'll definitely be using criss cross mark making as my main way of drawing stuff. The work I go to thus far for my projects are piling up pretty fast so I really hope that neither procrastination or my cold will get in the way of that. Til next time. :)

Day #6 - Broken eggshell

Today wasn't the best of days for me, today's drawing sums it up perfectly. But, i learned what works and what doesn't. In my previous post, I said that wanted to try using different coloured biros together but I didn't like the result. I instantly thought of one of my friends who mostly used pen in her work, and she came across this techique where she used contemporary colours together , it looked amazing but it didn't turn out well for me. I used red and green biro ;I thought the way they contrast would work well, but halfway throught the drawing I gave up and just stared at it. I was thinking of posting another drawing I did, but this part of the process. Making mistakes. I wanted to stop after shading the egg but I like to complete things. I thought it would change my perspective of the drawing.

It didn't. 😂

Expect a MUCH BETTER redraw tomorrow of this. Just one of those days I guess. Til next time! 😃

Day #5 - Have a cuppa

I quite surprised at how easily I've gotten into the drawing challenge.  Knowing the way I procrastinate,  I thought that would be a problem.  I'll see how I'm doing 100 days into the challenge.  Today, I originally meant to draw scrapped up pieces of paper, but I thought it would look interesting drawn with pencil (and I lovvveee drawing with pencil)  So I settled for drawing a mug instead. I tried drawing with blue fineliner this time and it turned out well, in my opinion. Though, there still my issue of drawing circles, but I hope that will be fixed at the end of the challenge.  At some point soon, I'll trying drawing with coloured pens so that there's colour in the drawings too. Til next time!  :)

Day #4 - Leftie

I've noticed lately that these past four days I tend to start my drawing exactly or after 11.00pm, and there is that saying that 'Creative people are more creative at night'. Just going with the flow. I love love love blue Biro, it just looks more vibrant on white paper. So I used the usual method of criss cross and drew observational from my left hand. For some reason, the nail of my index always grows to a certain length and no how much I try to cut it down, it grows back again. I wonder how or why it does this. One of the most important questions in life.

Til next time :)

Day #3 - Korra Alone: Screencap redraw

Korra alone was just beautiful (in a tragic way).  I really loved the scene where 'Dark Korra' wrapped her chains around Korra and pulled her down into a pool of poison. It just simply showed how much her battle with Zaheer and the poison had mentally shaken her up so much and how out of touch she is with herself.  Whilst watching, I went into my usual habit of print screening shots that looked interesting to draw and this definitely was one: the scene where she told Asami how she really was coping. I was actually worried  hoe everything looked whilst drawing this and I am actually quite happy with the outcome of this. I was tempted to use pencils then I remembered (Inktober, duh). Used fineliner again with the method of criss cross mark making. This one took a bit longer than the first two, but it's all good.

9am lectures on a Monday, are just a no no. Til next time, Twinkle toes :)

Day #2 - My eyes

Day no. 2. I might have re-draw this one too, my hand co-ordination wasn't the best when it came to this drawing and the eyes don't really look level with each other. I used a photo of my own eyes for this. But I have certainly missed using fineliners. Makes me glad I started when Inktober did.

Day #1 - Everything I see in.

It's official. Day #1 of the 365 daily drawing challenge. Frightening, isn't it? But after seeing an illustrator's amazing pieces of work, I decided that i wanted to have a go at it too. His name is Gabriel Picolo, if you ever want to check out his work. I'll post links below. :) The reason I wanted to do this challenge mainly was to get better at my drawing. I'm jealous of artists that have found their own visual signature and that's what I'm aiming to achieve too. Another aim is to be more disciplined and organized, as I'm usually a hit or miss when it comes that agenda.

The reason I chose to draw my glasses as the first drawing was because I have always worn glasses all my life as far as I can remember and I'll obviously use them to ensure I get all the details within an object when drawing. Fair to say I did well, but the issues i had with the drawing was that the lenses could have been drawn a little bigger and the light that comes in through the lenses, could've been drawn a lot more lighter. Part of the drawing challenge includes doing redraws, so I'll likely do this one again. Apparently, it's Inktober too, so expect a lot of biro and fineliner drawings. :) Til next time!
